If you receive an email with a subject "Greetings to You from "The Monster's Coming"!"‚ don't consider it junk mail or check your spam box to see if you have received such an email. This is a blessing just for you sent by your friend from our new game website "The Monster's Coming" (Picture 1). When we were conceiving the game‚ the Chinese New Year was about toarrive‚ and we were inspired by the Nian beast’s close relation to the Chinese New Year. Although the Nian beast is not the beast which bring people good luck‚ and the customs of letting off firecrackers and posting red Spring Festival Couplets are exactly for the purpose of scaring it away‚ what is left of legends are the phenomena and color of cheerful festivities. Today‚ why not give the Nian beast a new meaning? Taiwanese artist of Artbrut Lin Yuan worked in the farm in his whole life. Nearly being an illiterate‚ he carved stone carvings in his 60s by accident‚ and his artistic talent was discovered after being spread in the countryside and through the media. Just over 10 years‚ Lin Yuan carved thousands of stone carvings‚ wood carvings‚ and even paintings as well as many types of embroidery and the artworks with mixed materials. The main themes of his paintings and embroideries were about people and animals seen in the daily life‚ and few of them were combined with different animals‚ presenting a style full of childlike delights with lively and bright color‚ making people smile fondly at times (Picture 2). We chose some works from them‚ disassemble the part from heads‚ bodies‚ head crests/ears/horns‚ eyes to wings‚ and match them with Kraft paper‚ calendar paper‚ sackcloth‚ cotton paper‚ and red nylon cloth used by Lin Yuan as their backgrounds‚ allowing users to freely use Lin Yuan's painting to paint unique little monsters with creativity. After little monsters are created‚ you can keep them as your souvenirs‚ upload them to “Gallery” or social networking sites to share with others‚ and even send them out after adding words to make them e-cards (Picture 3). We hope you will like it. | Picture 3: The Finished Painting | |
